about

The 90s was a period of what now seems like ridiculous optimism. The dream of the decade was that we would sit around and wait for our ticket to Alpha Centauri. Since that time however we have learned something crucial: while ‘we’ certainly have the technological capacity and resources to reach the stars, ‘we’ does not include your or I. And thus the dream of space exploration is realized in a manner more farcical and cruel than we could have imagined.

lyrics

What calls you out of bed each day
Is not the rent or bills you pay
You’re living high above the trees
There’s not a soul you cannot see
And your future’s looking great
You’ll be the dawning of our age

And then you send your kids to space
While we’re down here in our graves
Without a drop of guilt or shame
About the world you could have saved

You are the king of him and me
Our beloved elohim

And then you send your kids to space
While we’re down here in our graves
Without a drop of guilt or shame
About the world you could have saved

Your glowing brighter every day
The sun is only in your way
There’s not a price you will not pay
Ascending demi-deity
