about
Regrets is the newest single from Tired All The Time about the personal psychic consequences of broader economic shifts since the 1970s. The fast paced consumerism we enjoyed at the end of New Deal politics was built on the idea that everything can be bought and sold. While this began with the glitz of shopping malls and new businesses, a growing realization that something was being lost emerged from the shadows. It’s a song about the loss of control mankind has unintentionally set in motion.
lyrics
There is so much in this new world you would undo
Uncommon sense and kilobytes that got us to the moon
You are the guard of your own dusty tomb
Parked outside a new strip mall and taking in the gloom
No ones coming to get you now but in your heart you wish they would
There’s no one coming to take your guns or your empty fucking neighborhood
If you turn back time you will just make the same mistakes
An overly determined echo of our human stain
Mistakes or what we make of them
Tell us what it will take again
There were some words we could’ve shared at some point long ago
A no man’s land divided by the things we cannot know
Before they kicked the commies out and before the atom bomb
Before when things were better in a time that never was
And if you turn back time you know your heart would stay the same
The world that made you miserable is the one where you were made
Regrets are what make us who we are
There’s no going back to your hometown because time just goes one way
And if you turn back time you will just make the same mistakes
Because stasis teaches us how still we never truly stay
